Pop was machinery, not gunfire, police say

What Las Vegas police initially thought was gunfire Monday in the east valley turned out to be a pop from a piece of machinery, the agency said.

An employee of a business that was burglarized called police about 1:30 p.m. and chased at least two people into a neighborhood near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Christy Lane, Metro said.

When police got to the 5700 block of East Charleston, officers thought they heard a gunshot coming from a home and set up a perimeter, Metro spokeswoman Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Police later realized the sound came from a compressor or other machine, and not a gun, Meltzer said.

Officers had taken down their perimeter as of 3:30 p.m.
