Tour bus flips over in northern Arizona, no injuries reported

A Las Vegas tour bus carrying 33 people flipped after a sudden downpour in northern Arizona Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said the bus, which was returning to Las Vegas after visiting the Grand Canyon Skywalk, flipped about 1:50 p.m. as the driver tried to cross a flooded area on Pierce Ferry Road.

The 32 passengers and driver escaped without injury, said Pat Moore, chief of the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District.

“They’re beyond lucky,” Moore said.

Moore said the bus was pushed nearly 300 yards by the floodwater before tipping. The water was 6 to 8 feet deep where the bus finally stopped.

Several agencies responded to the rescue operation.
