Two inmates escape from forestry crew near downtown Las Vegas

Two inmates working with the state Division of Forestry escaped Wednesday afternoon in the central valley, Las Vegas police said.

The Nevada Department of Corrections identified the inmates as Jonathan Jackson, 29, and Spike Brown, 32.

Jackson was serving a sentence of 24 months to 60 months for conspiracy to commit a violent crime and a concurrent sentence of 36 months to 96 months for grand larceny of a vehicle.

Brown was serving a sentence of 48 months to 120 months for possession of stolen property and a consecutive sentence of 12 months to 72 months for an ex-felon possessing a firearm.

Police spokesman Jose Hernandez said police were alerted to the escaped inmates at 2 p.m.

He said a driver transporting the inmates pulled over on U.S. Highway 95 northbound near the Interstate 15 interchange, and two inmates fled the vehicle.

Jackson has black hair and brown eyes. He stands about 5 feet 9 and weighs about 240 pounds.

Brown has black hair and brown eyes. He stands about 5 feet 9 and weighs about 170 pounds.

Both men were wearing blue tops and bottoms, Hernandez said.

As of 3:15 p.m., authorities had not found the inmates. Las Vegas police were assisting in the search.
