Las Vegas police arrest 2 in deadly home invasion

Updated February 21, 2017 - 5:44 pm

Las Vegas police said jealousy drove two men to fatally shoot a man during an April home invasion.

During the homicide investigation of 23-year-old Maurice Ramon White Jr.’s death, the Metropolitan Police Department identified Alfred Weathers, 22, and Leandre Lacey, 22, as suspects. Police said Weathers was taken into custody Thursday, and Lacey was taken into custody Friday. Both men face charges of murder with a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a gun and conspiracy to commit burglary.

White’s girlfriend, Jonette Washington, in whose apartment he was shot dead, is also facing a felony charge of accessory to murder. Washington refused to identify Weathers, the father of her two children, and Lacey to police in the days following the shooting, police said.

About 2 a.m. on April 19, witnesses heard two men, later identified as Weathers and Lacey, yelling at Washington to open her door. According to the arrest report, witnesses also heard Washington refusing their demands.

The front door of Washington’s Bill Rayson Manor apartment, at 1416 Sandhill Road, near Pecos Road and Washington Avenue, was kicked in. Multiple gunshots were heard, and the two men were seen running from the apartment, police said.

Arriving officers found White in the apartment suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.
