Second suspect arrested in central Las Vegas Valley double homicide last week

A second suspect was arrested Thursday in connection with a double homicide in the central valley last week, Las Vegas police announced Friday.

Terrell Stewart, 31, was taken into custody and booked Thursday into the Clark County Detention Center on several charges, including two counts of attempted murder.

On Monday, police also arrested Durwin Allen, 31, in connection with the case. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on several charges as well, including two counts of attempted murder.

Officers were initially dispatched about 10:35 p.m. Jan. 18 to the 700 block of McWilliams Avenue for reports of a shooting. According to an arrest report, “officers followed a fresh blood trail” back to a 900 block of West Washington Avenue apartment, where two people were found dead.

Myron Manghum, 33, died of a gunshot wound to the head, the county coroner determined. Alyssa Velasco, 27, died of gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

A third person was shot in his hands, and he was treated at University Medical Center.

Police said the suspects were at the apartment earlier in the evening and later allowed back into the residence. An argument over drugs ensued between the three victims and two others before “they just started shooting,” Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dan McGrath said.

Velasco’s brother, Brandon Barnes, told police he was on the phone with her during the shooting. Barnes reportedly heard his sister screaming, “No, no, no!”

Manghum and Velasco’s deaths mark the ninth and 10th homicides investigated by Metro and the 11th and 12th in Clark County in 2017.
