Inmate who escaped from firefighting camp is back in custody

An inmate who escaped from a firefighting camp Sunday afternoon is back in custody Monday, the Nevada Corrections Department said.

Nicco Donavan Way, 25, is back in custody Monday thanks to help from the Reno Police Department and a good Samaritan who called the police when he saw a man sleeping near a business in Reno, the department said in a statement.

Reno police arrested Way, who has been returned to the Nevada Corrections Department and moved to a correctional center in Carson City.

The other inmate, James Westbrook, 23, remains at large. Westbrook is believed to be in the Reno area.

The statement described Westbrook as 6-foot-2 with hazel eyes and brown hair. He has the word “Jay” tattooed on his right forearm. Westbrook was serving 16 to 72 months for burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Anyone with information on Westbrook’s whereabouts is asked to call local police or 911.
