Motorist involved in moped rider’s death turns herself in
April 5, 2016 - 9:08 am
The driver who fled the scene of a fatal accident involving a moped Sunday turned herself in to police Monday.
Krystal Hight, 29, contacted Metro’s fatal detail Monday to report she was the driver of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata that rear-ended the moped near East Flamingo and Pecos roads, leaving its driver dead, police said.
Anthony John Maida, 37, was riding a 2014 TaoTao Scooter traveling east on Flamingo about 8 a.m. when the front of the Hyundai hit the back of his scooter. Maida was thrown 600 feet from the scooter and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Hight left the scene with two passengers in the car — a 29-year-old female and a 2-year-old. The Hyundai was abandoned in a nearby residential area and recovered by patrol officers moments after the crash, the release said.
Hight was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving death and reckless driving resulting in death, according to county records.
This is the 31st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2016.
