Coroner IDs man killed in officer-involved shooting near Stratosphere

The man who died Monday night after an officer-involved shooting east of the Stratosphere has been identified by the Clark County coroner.

Efren Trujillo, 22, of Buckeye, Arizona, was chased and confronted by officers when at least one officer shot him, Metro Sgt. Jeff Clark said. Emergency crews quickly responded, but Trujillo died at University Medical Center, where he had been taken.

Before officers arrived, another man was injured in a separate shooting, Clark said early Tuesday. That man underwent surgery at UMC and is expected to survive, Clark said. Police later said that man had several gunshot wounds.

The first shooting happened about 10:15 p.m. at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard South and St. Louis Avenue, Clark said. When officers arrived, witnesses directed them to the possible shooter a block east at the Siegel Suites, 2000 Paradise Road.

That’s where officers chased and confronted Trujillo who was mentioned by witnesses, Clark said.
