Police identify suspect in Sunday morning shooting at Planet Hollywood Resort

Police on Tuesday identified a man they said “shoulder checked” and shot another man Sunday outside Planet Hollywood Resort.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Metropolitan Police Department said in arrest report, Dequandre Williams was walking with his girlfriend outside the hotel-casino at 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South, when he saw someone he recognized and began a conversation.

Williams told police that during the chat, another man, walked up, “shoulder checked” him and shot him, the arrest report said. Police identified the shooting suspect as Jeffery Cooper, 25.

Williams, whose age wasn’t in the report, was taken to University Medical Center and treated for multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Metro Lt. Charles Jenkins said the injuries were not life-threatening.

After watching surveillance video, detectives tracked Cooper to a vehicle that was parked first at Planet Hollywood Resort and later at an apartment complex at 650 E. Azure Ave., police said.

Cooper was arrested near the apartments and charged with one count of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, the arrest report said. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
