Here’s the Smith Center’s 2017-18 Broadway Las Vegas lineup

Wait till next year.

You’ll have to — because “Hamilton” doesn’t hit The Smith Center until May 29, 2018.

The Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway sensation about (more than) one of America’s Founding Fathers will run almost a month, according to Smith Center officials, who announced the 2017-18 Broadway Las Vegas season Tuesday in the center’s Reynolds Hall. hamiltonmusical

“I don’t know if you heard, but ‘Hamilton’s’ coming to Las Vegas,” joked Smith Center President Myron Martin, who welcomed subscribers and supporters to a free season preview, advising that “the only way to guarantee a seat is when (you) renew your subscription.”

Subscription renewals went on sale Tuesday night, immediately following the sneak peek, hosted by SiriusXM On Broadway’s Seth Rudetsky. (New 2017-18 subscriptions will go on sale at a later date; those interested in subscribing may register online at www.thesmithcenter.com.)

A trio of live performances punctuated Tuesday’s preview, which included video footage of all nine productions.

The Las Vegas Academy choir drew cheers for “Seasons of Love” from the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning “Rent,” which will play The Smith Center early next year. “Phantom of the Opera” soprano Jacqueline Fontaine trilled the title song from the “Phantom” sequel “Love Never Dies,” which arrives in March 2018. phantomgif

And Adrianna Hicks, who stars in the Tony-winning “Color Purple” revival (due in April 2018) rocked the house with the triumphant “I’m Here.” colorpurple

Rudetsky also shared Broadway gossip and presided over a name-that-tune contest with a quintet of audience members — one of whom showed off her gotta-sing stage presence, prompting Rudetsky to enthuse, “I’m going to hire this lady — that was unexpected.”

Leading off the Broadway Las Vegas season in August: the spoofy “Something Rotten!” — about Elizabethan-era brothers who create the world’s first musical to compete with rock star William Shakespeare.

Another Tony-winning revival, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The King and I,” the Tony-winning play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time,” Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” and a stage version of the 1992 movie hit “The Bodyguard” complete the 2017-18 schedule.

As for the season’s hottest ticket, “at least two weeks” of the “Hamilton” run will be “out on general sale,” Smith Center Vice President Paul Beard said, while “one full week will be allocated to subscribers.” Also, Smith Center officials are expecting the subscription base to swell because season subscribers have first priority for “Hamilton” tickets; renewing subscribers are guaranteed seats.

Because of high demand, the producers of “Hamilton” have “an acute sensitivity to scalpers” and “are working with us hand in glove to manage (ticket) allocation and distribution,” Beard said.

“I don’t know if there’ll be plenty of tickets,” but he promised “wide-open sales — as long as they last.”
