Lottery offers bargain seats for ‘Book of Mormon’

Nevada may not have a lottery, but “The Book of Mormon” does.

The Tony-winning musical, which opens a four-week run Tuesday at The Smith Center, will hold a pre-show lottery for 20 front-row seats priced at $25 each.

The lottery for the show’s Broadway run has attracted as many as 800 entries at some performances; the show’s producers offer low-priced lottery seats at every stop on the show’s two national tours.

Here’s how the ticket lottery works: Entries will be accepted at The Smith Center’s box office starting 2½ hours before each performance. Each entrant will fill out a card with his or her name and the number of $25 tickets (one or two) desired. Only one entry is allowed per person, per day; cards are checked for duplication.

Two hours before curtain, names will be drawn at random for the chance to purchase one or two $25 tickets. Winners must be present at the time of the drawing and show valid ID to purchase the tickets with cash or credit card only.

“The Book of Mormon,” which focuses on the adventures of two Mormon missionaries in Uganda, runs through July 6 in The Smith Center’s Reynolds Hall, 361 Symphony Park Ave., with performances at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are regularly priced from $39 to $150.
