Bill Maher, Dennis Miller in town – but not together

Two polarizing political comedians. One mile. Don’t get caught in the middle.

Having Bill Maher and Dennis Miller in town the same weekend, so close, yet so far apart, makes you wonder if South Arville Street between the Palms and The Orleans will look like the barricades in “Les Miserables,” with Eponine caught in the crossfire trying to deliver a letter.

In June, Maher treated one of his periodic dates at the Palms as though it was the heat of the presidential campaign season — pick your year — reagitating old foes such as Sarah Palin in the process. It was widely reported that he called her son “retarded,” less reported that the slur was aimed at mom. Either way, he got her riled on Twitter.

Miller so successfully shifted from the pop culture commentator of his “Saturday Night Live” years to being the rare comedian embraced by Fox News, he and Bill O’Reilly can sell out the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. They return with their “Bolder & Fresher” tour Nov. 15, with a Koch Brothers-worthy top ticket of $500.

But this weekend, take your pick. A true independent could go see one Friday and the other Saturday. But for most people, the only confusion would be on Arville.
