Buffett preserves tradition with return to MGM Grand

Hmm. If Jimmy Buffett wanted to play a cozy little joint for a change, where would it be?

Maybe that Margaritaville place at the Flamingo, which at one point was said to be the most lucrative restaurant per square foot in all the country?

Sorry.

The original good-time guy opted instead to play this week at the 600-capacity Belly Up in Solana Beach, Calif.

But fear not, Buffett preserves his annual October tradition of playing the MGM Grand Garden arena on Saturday — and again next Saturday.

It’s a rite of passage for fans. The Margaritaville Tequila (ask for it by name) passes down their gullet and sometimes back up again before the show is over.

But the pencil-thin-mustache guy has been playing the MGM since at least 1996. So if Parrotheads haven’t learned to pace themselves by now, they never will.
