12 ways to celebrate bourbon in Las Vegas

We sure do like our booze in Las Vegas.

Oh, heck. We don't just like it, we celebrate it at every possible opportunity.

The latest of those would be National Bourbon Heritage Month, which is September. And here are a dozen places to celebrate, with special cocktails (and some dishes), many of which are available only this month.

Delmonico Steakhouse, The Venetian: Special bourbon-infused dishes are mushroom-crusted filet medallions with caramelized onion bourbon sauce, $50; sweet potatoes with bourbon-pecan glaze, $12; and bourbon sticky toffee cake, $11; to go with special cocktails Back to School (Elijah Craig 12-year-old with hazelnut, cinnamon and coffee), Brown Derby (Old Forester with pink grapefruit juice and honey syrup) and The New Father (Weller 12-year-old, amaretto and house-made tobacco-vanilla bitters), $15 each. Bourbon tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21, with passed appetizers, and live music by Dick Earl Ericksen.

Emeril's New Orleans Fish House, MGM Grand: Special cocktails Back to School (Elijah Craig 12-year-old bourbon with hazelnut, cinnamon and coffee), Brown Derby (Old Forester with pink grapefruit juice and honey syrup) and The New Father (Weller 12-year-old, amaretto and house-made tobacco-vanilla bitters), $15 each, plus other special cocktails and dishes.

The Foundation Room, Mandalay Bay: "Bourbon and Bites" dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, bourbon pairings with a five-course dinner with an entree of barbecued lamb chop, $55; reserve at 702-632-7631.

Gilley's, Treasure Island: Bourbon and whiskey flights, $20; Vs. (Jack vs. Jim, Bib and Tucker vs. Bulleit, etc.), $15; Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon Old Fashioned, New Fashioned or Manhattan, $12.

Hank's, Green Valley Ranch Resort: Bourbon Stinger (Double Oaked Woodford Reserve, Stirrings Ginger Liqueur, honey and Champagne), French Kentucky Smash (Double Oaked Woodford Reserve, mint springs, mango juice, orange juice, lime juice, rock candy syrup and Champagne) and Orange Sazarac (Double Oaked Woodford Reserve, Cointreau, orange juice, orange bitters, Angostura Bitters, Sierra Mist), $12 each.

Little Tony's, Palace Station: Personalized bourbon-inspired flights, $18; build-your-own Old Fashioned, $11; and on-tap Secret Recipe Manhattan, $13.

Pot Liquor CAS, Town Square: New additions to the bourbon list include The Orphan Barrel Distilling Co. rare recovered whiskeys Forged Oak, Lost Prophet, Barterhouse and Rhetoric.

Public House, The Venetian: Willet Flight (Willet Pot Still, Willet Family Estate Rye, Rowens Creek, Pure Kentucky), $34; The 4 B's (Basil Hayden, Bakers, Blanton's, Bookers), $34; Pappy Flight (Pappy 10, Pappy 12, Pappy 20), $175.

Rx Boiler Room, The Shoppes at Mandalay Place: Rick's Bourbon Frosty (RM Seafood's Four Roses bourbon, half and half, Nocello liqueur, cinnamon and black almond), Breakfast of Champions (Four Roses bourbon, maple syrup, Canadian Whisky Liqueur, Nocello liqueur, maple syrup and chocolate bitters), $16 each.

Social, The Palms: Bitter Bourbonite Social Bowl (Bulleit Bourbon, Campari, passion-fruit puree and passion-fruit cider), serves 6 to 8, $140.

Strip House, Planet Hollywood: Leather Aged Manhattan (George Dickel No. 12 aged in a wineskin on the steakhouse's bar, Carpano Antica and bourbon cherries), $20.

Table 10, The Palazzo: "Bourbon and Blues" from 7 to 10 p.m. every Friday in September with live music from Dick Earl Ericksen, plus flights of a different bourbon brand each week. Special cocktails Back to School (Elijah Craig 12-year-old with hazelnut, cinnamon and coffee), Brown Derby (Old Forester with pink grapefruit juice and honey syrup) and The New Father (Weller 12-year-old, amaretto and house-made tobacco-vanilla bitters), $15 each.
