PDQ TO TRADE TENDERS FOR BOOKS

PDQ Restaurant, 3737 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas, plans to host a book drive for underprivileged children April 1-5 in recognition of National Children’s Book Day, which is April 2. PDQ invites guests and Boys & Girls Clubs supporters to donate a new or gently used book and receive a card for a free three-piece chicken tender/sandwich meal or salad to use during their next visit.

LAZY DOG TO OPEN APRIL 6 AT DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN

Southern California-based Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar plans to open its first Las Vegas Valley location April 6 at Downtown Summerlin, 1725 Festival Plaza Drive, No. A2.

The restaurant features a from-scratch kitchen and a bar with a variety of hand-crafted cocktails and craft brews. Signature menu items include the Black & Bleu Burger, chicken poblano with crispy tamale cakes and Campfire Pot Roast, along with seasonally-inspired dishes such as ceviche tostadas with chilled shrimp and mahi mahi on mini tostadas with guacamole and topped with micro cilantro.

There also are a variety of small plates such as Sicilian turkey meatballs and Hatch chili and bacon macaroni and cheese offered for happy hour on the dog-friendly patio, as well as a Nutritious & Delicious menu. Weekend brunch offerings include Sunny Side Up Pizza, wild blueberry pancakes and maple bacon butter and The Breakfast Club, a fried egg sandwich with honey-cured bacon, avocado, cheddar and Tabasco mayo served on a buttermilk biscuit.

Hours are from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, with happy hour specials planned from 3 to 6 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and Sunday, brunch service until 2 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, a reverse happy hour is planned from 9 p.m. to midnight.

MOTORCYCLES & MUTTS POKER RUN TO BENEFIT ANIMAL FOUNDATION

PT’s Entertainment Group, operators of PT’s, Sierra Gold and Sean Patrick’s taverns, plans to host the Motorcycles & Mutts Poker Run to benefit The Animal Foundation April 11.

Along with raising funds, the event also will encourage shelter adoptions. Registration is $35, and a guest can ride along for $10. Participants will enjoy food and drink specials offered at each stop, receive a commemorative pin and bandana, a 50 percent discount on pet adoptions, one raffle ticket and entry into the official after-party.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Sierra Gold, 6515 S. Jones Blvd. and from there, riders travel to the Pahrump Nugget, along Red Rock Canyon’s Scenic Loop Drive and on to PT’s Gold, 3770 S. Hualapai Way, then out to Sean Patrick’s Pub & Grill, 11930 Southern Highlands Parkway, before making their final stop at PT’s Ranch, 2430 E. Pebble at Eastern Avenue, for a post-run after-party concert, cookout and raffle drawing.

Additionally, The Animal Foundation plans to host on-site pet adoptions. The raffle drawing is open to poker run participants and the public, and tickets are $5 each or five for $20. GREAT VEGAS FESTIVAL OF BEER SET FOR APRIL 11 DOWNTOWN

Motley Brews plans to host its fifth annual Great Vegas Festival of Beer from 3 to 7 p.m. April 11 in downtown Las Vegas near the Fremont East Entertainment District.

This year’s beer list will offer more than 300 brews from more than 100 different breweries, with highlights including Alpine Beer Co., Green Flash, Stone, Rough Draft and local newcomers Old School and Hop Nuts. This year’s official beer of Great Vegas is a collaboration between the Nevada breweries called Banana Split: a German Hefeweizen with cacao nibs and vanilla beans. Other one-off beers will be available exclusively in the Nevada Craft Brewers Association Pavilion. The festival also will have several cider and wine options.

In addition, culinary menus are set to be served in the signature Gastropub, featuring the talents of 12 prominent Las Vegas chefs. Beer-inspired menus from the city’s top restaurants will be offered, and to pair with the craft brews, the Gastropub will offer dishes from MTO Cafe, DW Bistro, Lulu’s Bread & Breakfast, Stack Restaurant & Bar, Naked City Pizza, O Face Doughnuts, Nacho Daddy, TruckUBarbeque, Sausagefest, The Goodwich, Echo & Rig, Cantina Laredo and Pot Liquor. Food in the Gastropub will be available for purchase and is not included as part of the festival ticket.

BrewLogic informational sessions are planned at the Western Hotel, with “Dr.” Bill Sysak guiding guests in the art of doughnut and beer pairings, and Las Vegas chef Justin K. Hall showcasing a beer vinegar made exclusively for the festival.

Entertainment is set to feature live music by Las Vegas artists Josh Royse and Brumby. The Human Arcade, presented by Zappos, will offer classic childhood party games and corn hole, life-size checkers and beer pong. The House of Blues plans to feature live disc jockey sets at the “Silent Disco.”

An exclusive VIP area, the Brewers Lounge, will be at Atomic Liquors with exclusive access to craft beers, specialty pours, beer cocktails and more, along with sampling of beer-inspired dishes from chef Ben Vaughn’s new downtown restaurant, Southern Kitchen.

Tickets are $40 for general admission and $50 for early entry, available at greatvegasbeer.com until the day of the festival. Pending availability, general admission and early-entry tickets will be available at the door for $45 and $55 respectively. VIP tickets have sold out.

Doors open for early-entry and VIP ticket holders at 2 p.m. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation and the Nevada Craft Brewers Association.

PIZZA ROCK OPENS SECOND VALLEY LOCATION

Pizza Rock has opened its second Las Vegas Valley location at Green Valley Ranch Resort, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway in Henderson, serving lunch and dinner daily.

The restaurant offers classic Italian entrees, pasta and 11 styles of award-winning gourmet pizzas. The new restaurant is more than 7,000 square feet and includes indoor and outdoor seating, a large cocktail bar and a 20-seat interactive wood-fire bar. The full bar offers hand-crafted artisan cocktails, an extensive draft and bottled beer list with craft beers including local breweries Banger Brewing Co., Bad Beat Brewing, Crafthaus Brewery and Joseph James Brewing Co., along with 40 beers on tap and a collection of wines with a focus on California and Italy.

UNLVino events are scheduled for April 16-18 to raise scholarship funds for UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration. ENCORE’S SINATRA SALUTES LATE SINGER WITH TASTING MENU

LAS VEGAS RESTAURANT WEEK SET FOR JUNE 15-26

Las Vegas Restaurant Week is scheduled to raise funds for Three Square food bank June 15-26, when participating restaurants around the valley will feature prix fixe menus for breakfast, lunch or dinner ranging in price from $20.15 to $50.15. A fixed portion of each meal’s cost will be donated to Three Square to help alleviate hunger in the valley.

MERCADITO ANNOUNCES WEEKLY TEQUILA DINNERS, COOKING DEMOS

Mercadito is hosting weekly Wednesday Tequila Dinners at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. The four-course dinner offers off-menu items paired with tequilas including anejo, blanco and reposado variations.

The cost is $36 per person with a minimum of two per table. Four menus will rotate weekly over three months.

The restaurant also plans to begin offering Cooking Demo Mondays April 13, with chefs demonstrating their skills as guests drink and dine.

BELLAGIO ANNOUNCES CULINARY CLASSROOM LINEUP

Bellagio executive chef Edmund Wong plans to host the Executive Chef’s Culinary Classroom, a series of interactive, two-hour cooking classes through Nov. 10. Wong and his culinary team will share ideas and techniques as they guide guests through the steps to creating a three-course meal. Classes will be held in the resort’s demonstration kitchen, Tuscany Kitchen.
