Fat Choy
Eureka Casino, 595 E. Sahara Ave., 702-794-3464
The Eureka Casino has been a locals’ favorite for more than 50 years, and it may have something to do with Fat Choy, the cozy Asian American cafe inside. With warm lighting and a peaceful atmosphere, the quiet space offers a relief to the glare of neon. It offers countertop seating, bouncy red booths and a few tables and chairs, paired with flat-screen TVs and paper lanterns adorning the walls and ceiling. Food and drink specials are posted in the doorway, along with the promise of free Wi-Fi. The menu offers Asian favorites and traditional American fare. Snacks are $6 to $7 and include wonton soup with pork and shrimp filling, potstickers with fried pork and chive, classic Buffalo-style chicken wings and bao, a flat, folded-over steamed bun sandwich packed with such flavors as Peking duck, pork belly, and tofu and mushrooms. Burgers are $8 to $10, with varieties of classic, the Fat Choy with Angus beef, fried egg, bacon and short rib, cheesesteak and shortrib grilled cheese. They are served with fries or a salad. Rice dishes include chicken teriyaki ($8), duck ($12) and shortrib ($14). The vegetarian sesame noodles ($8) feature wild mushrooms, cucumbers, carrots, peanuts and sesame vinaigrette. Saturdays and Sundays offer all-day breakfast, including a stack of three pancakes ($5) and chicken and waffles ($10). There is beer, breakfast cocktails and a freestyle Coke machine with more than 100 combinations. Fat Choy is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit fatchoylv.com.
