Dining Pick of the Week: Golden Gate

Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant

1654 W. Warm Springs Road at North Arroyo Grande Boulevard, Henderson, 702-547-9993

Golden Gate is under new management, and although the name remains the same and the location hasn’t changed much, inside there is fresh paint and renewed passion for the menu. The dining room features marble tabletops engraved with ancient battle scenes, while Chinese lettering on the walls reads “happiness, tranquility and harmony.” The Kuan family has been cooking and serving Chinese food for more than 15 years and arrived about two months ago to start a new culinary adventure in Henderson. The family-run eatery’s revamped menu includes classic appetizers ($2 to $6) such as egg rolls, crab Rangoon and dumplings, along with new additions such as scallion pan cake with crispy flatbread filled with scallions and herbs, popcorn chicken and pot stickers. Soups are $3 to $4 for a small order and $5 to $6 for a large container and feature egg drop, hot and sour, vegetable tofu, wonton and seafood. The lo mein and fried rice ($7 to $8) come with options of chicken, pork, beef, vegetable, shrimp or combination. Chow fun noodles are about $1 more. Classics entrees, with choice of meat or vegetables/tofu, include sweet and sour, moo shu, Kung Pao and sesame. House specials ($9 to $17) include Volcano Shrimp — crispy shrimp in sweet orange sauce with spices — and roasted duck. Lunch specials ($6.25 to $7.25) are served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and include choice of soup, steamed or fried rice and vegetable egg roll. Delivery is available within a 3-mile radius. Golden Gate is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
