Dining Pick of the Week: Makers & Finders Coffee

Makers & Finders Coffee

1120 S. Main St., No. 110, 702-586-8255

It’s not often that you find Latin comfort food paired with artisan coffee, but that’s the draw of Makers & Finders. Coffee here is brewed seven different ways, and some of the unique offerings include the Lavender Infused Latte ($5.50 served iced and $6 served hot), which features house made lavender syrup and is garnished with fresh lavender. The result is a latte with a silky smooth, almost velvety texture, and the lavender influence is mild. There’s also a Mexican Spice Latte with spiced mocha syrup and cinnamon clove and Cortadito ($4), espresso and 50/50 condensed milk. Cuban espresso is also on the coffee menu. When you’re properly caffeinated and ready to move on to food, you’ll have your choice of breakfast items or Latin comfort food. The empanadas ($6 each) come in choices of Chicken Tinga (chipotle chicken, lettuce and lime avocado sauce), Carne Mechada (Puerto Rican pot roast, roasted potatoes and spicy aji sauce) and Spicy Mushroom (red peppers, fried kale and spicy tomato salsa). There are also arepas served with plaintain chips ($8.50 to $9.50) and comfort food entrees such as chorizo Brussels sprouts ($12), served with grilled shrimp, crispy onions, red wine vinegar and sauteed mushrooms. Breakfast items include Latin hash and the Arepa Benny ($10), with poached eggs, coffee-rubbed beef and salsa verde hollandaise sauce. There are also a variety of sandwiches and salads. Desserts include Ojaldras ($6), fried orange batter with cinnamon sugar and lechera (sweetened condensed milk). The restaurant features an inviting patio area in front along Main Street, and the inside is spacious with tables, a couch seating area and a long coffee bar. However, those expecting to find a typical coffee shop atmosphere may be disappointed, as this place pretty much operates like a typical restaurant with a hostess station and wait staff. Makers & Finders Coffee is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed Sunday. For more information, visit makersandfinderslv.com.
