Dining Pick of the Week: Pita House

Pita House

1310 E. Silverado Ranch Blvd. at South Maryland Parkway, 702-778-7100

At Pita House, everything is homemade without preservatives, and it shows in the Mediterranean menu’s fresh flavors. That menu includes wraps and sandwiches, kabobs, salads and appetizers. Shawarma is $8 and features chicken in creamy garlic sauce or beef in savory tahini sauce, both served with vegetables on warm pita bread. The gyro is $8 and has sliced beef and lamb and tzatziki (cucumber and yogurt) sauce. The falafel is $6 and features patties made of spiced garbanzo and fava beans, fried and covered in tahini sauce with fresh greens and tomato. Kabobs are $8 to $9 and kafta is $7 to $8, with choices of beef, chicken or lamb. Platters range from $10 to $13 or $17 for the triple combination. Everything comes with sides of salad and rice (or fries for $1 more). The salad includes croutons made of fried chunks of pita bread. Traditional appetizers include baba ghanoush ($4), an eggplant dip, and kibbe balls (three for $4), which are ground beef covered in spices and baked in wheat. The menu also has cheese or spinach pies (four for $3) and veggie-stuffed grape leaves (five for $4). Desserts include baklava (a flaky pastry made of phyllo dough) and namoura (Lebanese semolina cake) for $2 each. Daily specials are featured on a board next to the counter, and there is a flat-screen television to watch. There also is a fenced-in outdoor patio area. Pita House is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
