Dining Pick of the Week: Yama Sushi

Yama Sushi

Mission Center, 1350 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 18, 702-696-0072

In a city known for its sins, it’s clear gluttony is one of them. Buffets and all-you-can-eat restaurants seem to pop up in every casino and shopping center; however, you won’t regret eating your weight in sushi at Yama Sushi. The restaurant’s all-you-can-eat option covers everything on the menu, including appetizers and dessert, for $20.95 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and $23.95 from 3 p.m. to closing. Ordering a specialty roll may be a bit awkward for first-timers, but you’ll want a One Minute Man (deep-fried shrimp, cream cheese and spicy tuna topped with green onions, crunch, spicy mayo and eel sauce) after having a Strip Tease (shrimp tempura, cream cheese and crab meat roll topped with spicy tuna, avocado, crunch and eel sauce) with a Wet Dream (California roll baked with cream cheese, shrimp and sweet yam and eel sauces). Nigiri sushi (raw fish on balls of rice) includes yellowtail, eel, garlic tuna and sea urchin. Soups and salads also are served, including miso soup and seafood salad (a variety of raw fish, daikon radish and cucumber in garlic ponzu sauce). A la carte options also are available. Most rolls range from $4 to $15. Yama Sushi is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. For more information, visit yamasushivegas.com.

Should restaurant surcharges be legal? Here’s what economists think

The hotly debated surcharges have grown in popularity among restaurateurs, who say they rely on the fees to afford increases in labor costs or to boost pay for back-of-house workers who aren’t tipped.
