Enjoy the run for the roses in style with these Derby Day specials

This is going to be a huge — legendary — sports weekend in Las Vegas, but let’s not forget one of the oldest events in the country, the 141st renewal of “the greatest two minutes in sports,” also known as the Kentucky Derby. Here are a half-dozen places to see it in style.

Cabo Wabo Cantina, Miracle Mile Shops, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-385-2226 or www.cabowabocantina.com. Beginning at 10 a.m., drink specials including mint juleps, $8; buckets of Dos Equis beers, $21; and shot specials.

Commonwealth, 525 E. Fremont St.; 702-445-6400 or www.commonwealthlv.com. 2 to 5 p.m., Talk Derby to Me with specialty cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and live music, $20 in advance, $25 at the door. All proceeds benefit United Way of Southern Nevada.

DB Brasserie, The Venetian, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-430-1235 or www.dbbrasserie.com. 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., extended happy hour including Seattle Slew cocktail with Tatoosh Bourbon and a brown sugar-mint ice sphere, $7, plus other happy hour specials.

El Cortez, 600 E. Fremont St.; 702-385-5200 or www.elcortezhotelcasino.com. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 and 2, $1 hot dogs, $2 Budweiser drafts and $2 mint juleps.

Lagasse’s Stadium, Palazzo, 3325 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-607-2665 or www.emerilsrestaurants.com. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., hot brown sandwich with french fries, $15; half-rack of bourbon-glazed pork ribs, $14; New Orleans chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, $7; surf and turf nachos, $21; barbecue brisket sandwich and Creole-seasoned fries, $15; beer-battered shrimp on Maytag blue cheese slaw, $16; and Woodford Reserve mint juleps in a commemorative glass, $16.
