Here’s where to go for ‘the most divine lobster thermidor’

Mmm … lobster.

It’s most people’s idea of an indulgence when it’s simply served steamed, with drawn butter. But dress it up a little more, as in lobster thermidor or lobster Newburg, and it’s even more luxurious. And fellow Taste of the Town readers have found it for Jennifer Esposito.

Monica Starnes emailed that the Redwood Bar and Grill at the California Hotel, 12 E. Ogden Ave., “serves the most divine lobster thermidor, and it is a regular item on the menu.” Ann Brown and Gerri Frederick both recommended Andre’s Restaurant at the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South. And Frederick also spotted it at sister restaurant Alize at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road, and N9NE Steakhouse, also at the Palms. …

For Pamela Moore, who’s looking for a local source for huckleberry ice cream or huckleberry syrup, Beth More emailed to suggest Winco, which has stores at 80 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson and 6101 N. Decatur Blvd. “They also carry unusual flavors of both ice cream and yogurt,” she added. And while it’s not a local source, Jim Guynup emailed that Huckleberry Haven, which is in Kalispell, Mont., “will mail you any huckleberry product you can think of. The products are awesome.” Huckleberry Haven can be reached at www.HuckleberryHaven.com, or 800-778-8257. …

For Dana LaFrana, who’s looking for moderately priced Italian-style cold cuts now that Food 4 Less has closed, Delores Acker said mortadella can be found at the deli counter at Cardenas markets, which has four stores in the valley. And Kara Hierro of Glazier’s Food Marketplace at 8525 W. Warm Springs Road emailed that they carry Citterio mortadella with pistachio nuts for $5.98 a pound. …

Hierro said Glazier’s also carries the Lay’s Sweet Southern Heat barbecue potato chips that Margie Van Der Leest is seeking. …

More on cherry tomatoes: Joyce Gargan spotted them at 99 Cents Only stores and added that they sometimes also have heirloom tomatoes, “the ones that are purple and other colors and may be oddly shaped. Also they have yellow tomatoes, including the yellow grape tomatoes, from time to time.”

Should restaurant surcharges be legal? Here’s what economists think

The hotly debated surcharges have grown in popularity among restaurateurs, who say they rely on the fees to afford increases in labor costs or to boost pay for back-of-house workers who aren’t tipped.
