Pickup crashes into school bus in northwest Las Vegas

Updated October 19, 2017 - 4:54 pm

A pickup truck crashed into a school bus carrying children in the northwest valley Thursday afternoon.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Jason Buratczuk said the crash happened about 2:20 p.m. near the 215 Beltway and North Durango Drive.

The pickup ran a red light driving south on Durango Drive and hit the side of the school bus, which had exited the 215 on the eastbound off-ramp, witnesses told the Highway Patrol.

The bus was carrying 15 children, and Buratczuk said they all appeared uninjured. The pickup was wedged underneath the bus, Buratczuk said, but its driver also appeared to avoid serious injuries.

It wasn’t clear whether impairment or distraction were factors in the crash.

About 4:30 p.m., a Regional Transportation Bus crashed with a school bus at Valley High School at 2839 Burnham Ave., near Sahara and Eastern avenues. Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Larry Hadfield said about 16 kids were on board, but no significant injuries were reported.
