New restaurant Cafe 6 knows how to have fun with food

Goodbye Simon, hello Cafe 6.

Cafe 6 has opened in Palms Place to supplant the much-lamented Simon Kitchen & Lounge, which closed earlier this month because of chef Kerry Simon’s declining health.

While Cafe 6’s name may be pretty basic — it’s for the floor on which the restaurant is situated — the menu is not, carrying on Simon’s playful approach to food. Thus there’s a Dr. Pepper glaze on the appropriately named Dr. Pepper Shroom Burger, the secret Burn Your Face Off sauce, Salty Crunchy Pickles and the entire Love Handles Dessert Menu, with the likes of cinnamon-dusted Nutella doughnuts and deep-fried Oreos with vanilla bean ice cream.

And yes, you can get the burger in the picture. That’s The Smoke Out, with Angus beef, barbecued brisket, coleslaw, fried onions and barbecue sauce on a pretzel bun.

As for the setting? Since the restaurant is in the Simon space, it has the same fabulous view of the pool, through a wall of broad windows.

Cafe 6 is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. daily. Call 702-944-3292 or visit www.palms.com.
