This week’s 5 best bets for dining in Las Vegas

Something new

Here’s a little break for the summer: Sushi Roku, which is in the Forum Shops at Caesars, is offering the appropriately named Summer Break menu through Aug. 31, with three courses for $49. And locals might want to remember that the restaurant always offers them 20 percent off, with valid local ID (although that’s not applicable to the Summer Break menu). For reservations, call 702-733-7373.

Family fun

The whole family can indulge in barbecue this summer without having to fire up the grill. The Cannery Row Buffet at the Cannery in North Las Vegas is offering Beer and Barbecue from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The buffet offers more than 80 food items, including chicken wings, rotisserie chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers, and adults get unlimited Pabst Blue Ribbon for two hours. It’s $9.99 per person.

Solo trip

Yup, there’s definitely such a thing as a free lunch — or dinner, if you like to eat early. Saturday is Customer Appreciation Day at Pizza Factory at 10420 S. Decatur Blvd., and to show its appreciation to its customers, the restaurant will give away free pizzas from 1 to 6 p.m. All you have to do is show up; prizes and fun also are promised.

Date night

Andiron Steak & Sea in Downtown Summerlin promises you don’t have to go to the Hamptons to participate in a White Party, because they’re planning one for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. A light and summery menu of such dishes as burrata and roasted peach toast, oysters with bloody mary mignonette and Thai chicken skewers is planned, and white attire is strongly recommended. It’s $59, which includes house white, red and sparkling wines, signature summer cocktails and a selection of beers but not tax or tip. Visit www.andironsteak.com for reservations.

For friends

Friday Night Flights will be back Tuesday at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill in Downtown Summerlin, so gather up the gang and prepare to be judgmental. Sommeliers Sarah Pollack of Jasmine at Bellagio and Troy Grenstiner from CraftSteak at MGM will both try to provide the perfect pairings for a three-course dinner with an entree of marinated skirt steak. It’s from 6 to 8 p.m. and costs $50, plus tax and tip; call 702-202-6300.

Should restaurant surcharges be legal? Here’s what economists think

The hotly debated surcharges have grown in popularity among restaurateurs, who say they rely on the fees to afford increases in labor costs or to boost pay for back-of-house workers who aren’t tipped.
