View Dining Pick of the Week: China Hot Wok

China Hot Wok

7121 W. Craig Road, Suite 112, at North Tenaya Way, 702-515-1443

Sure, there are plenty of places to get Chinese food, but sometimes one will stand out. China Hot Wok, in a shopping center anchored by an Albertsons, is one of those places. It opened in December and has quickly gained a following — so quickly that, having been open less than six months, the owners already have started searching for its next location. The family restaurant is managed by Sharry Wei, who, along with her father, Keyu Wei (a chef for more than 20 years) and cousin, Kyly Lin, own the business. The recipes harken back to the area of China where they’re from, Fujian, and many come from Sharry’s grandmother, referred to simply as Nanna. You can bet Nanna used no MSG, and neither does China Hot Wok. “My father says, ‘The food is the important thing,’ ” said Sharry, “but I say, ‘The customer is the most important thing.’ ” The 1,300-square foot restaurant seats 30, including three booths. At the tables, the menu is visible under glass, and on it, you’ll find plenty of noodle and rice dishes such as chow mein and fried rice (each available with chicken, beef, pork or vegetables), crispy noodle, chow fun and pad Thai. Under the chicken selections, there are choices such as mu shu, General Tso’s, with broccoli, orange, lemon, sesame, teriyaki, chop suey and bourbon. Pork selections include garlic Szechwan-style, with mapo tofu, with string beans, barbecue, and sweet and sour. There are 12 beef choices, including curry, sesame, ginger and onion, Mongolian and Hunan. Nine shrimp and seafood dishes include Kung Pao shrimp, shrimp with snow peas, shrimp with lobster sauce, and curry shrimp. Those who like to stick to vegetables can have items such as Buddha’s Delight, sauteed broccoli or string beans and eggplant tofu. Lunch specials run about $7 and have 20 choices. China Hot Wok is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit chinahotwok.com.
