Hard Rock’s SKYBAR offers a more sophisticated experience than The hotel’s Rehab

There are times when even the hardiest clubber seeks a momentary respite from the action. And when such occasions arrive, SKYBAR at the Hard Rock Hotel just may fit the bill.

SKYBAR's synthesis of pool venue by day and nightclub by night opened adjacent to the new HRH Tower last month. And, notes Phil Shalala, the Hard Rock Hotel's chief marketing officer, SKYBAR offers guests "that same vibe, that same atmosphere" of SKYBAR's Los Angeles cousin -- namely, a "kind of tranquil type of environment, both during the day as well as at night."

And, in that respect, SKYBAR can serve as a sort of complement to Rehab, the Hard Rock's summertime pool party.

"It's meant to provide an additional offering for a different type of customer that is looking for a bit more upscale, sophisticated experience," Shalala says, "but still (with) the young, rock 'n' roll vibe of the Hard Rock."

Among SKYBAR's more notable design features are acrylic cutouts in the main pool's bottom that serve as de facto skylights into the HRH Beach Club located below. And, with a capacity of about 200, SKYBAR is "not too big," Shalala says, "so people feel really comfortable there."

Other amenities include cabanas, music -- "a mellow DJ mix," Shalala says, "not heavy rock" -- and "an unbelievable view of the Strip, both during the day and at night."

SKYBAR is open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday through Mondays. Then, Shalala says, SKYBAR resets "for nightlife hours" from 8 p.m. to midnight Fridays through Sundays.

Meanwhile, on Mondays from noon to 6 p.m., SKYBAR is the scene of RELAX Monday, which caters to locals. Local ladies are admitted free.

SKYBAR admission is complimentary for hotel guests and $20 for others. Upscale beach attire is required. For information, call 693-5555.
