Las Vegas losing a gem with Simon closing

Las Vegas is losing one of its most iconic and prettiest restaurants, when the Palms shuts down chef Kerry Simon’s very tasty and seductive Simon at Palms Place.

The restaurant has been a celebrity staple for years, featuring incredibly pretty interiors, glass walls that supply a view of the pool, and waitresses and customers in pajamas.

Simon at Palms Place doesn’t dish to us media about famous diners, but I have personally seen Britney Spears there, Mariah Carey with Nick Cannon on an anniversary of their now-dead marriage, members of KISS and “Real Housewives,” and George Maloof brunching with Avril Lavigne-in-PJs.

News broke late Friday, of Simon’s being turned into a different restaurant soon, from Simon’s friend Robin Leach, who reported that Harrah’s will also shut down Simon’s KGB burger joint.

Simon is stuck in a wheelchair, fighting a debilitating disease, multiple system atrophy, and working with Las Vegas’ Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health to launch early research into someday conquering this cruel disease.

Simon has lost the ability to move much and to talk. A friend of his recently showed me a photo of one of Simon’s best friends, Bill Murray, sweetly reading to Simon in Simon’s home.

So all of this is happening at the same time. What great challenges this world serves to even the most fortunate of the living.
