Feel paradigms shift with Korn

Nu metal has grown old so how does Korn stay new?

On their last record, 2011’s “Path of Totality,” it was by delving into dubstep. The veteran hard rockers recruited DJ-producers like Skrillex and Kill the Noise to add frenetic, berzerker beats to their already dense bottom end, resulting in a sound as full-contact as the mosh pits it inspired.

This time around, on the group’s 11th record “The Paradigm Shift,” released on Tuesday, Korn has reunited with guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, who hasn’t made an album with the band since 2003’s “Take a Look in the Mirror.”

True to Welch’s return, the disc is anchored in the dark electronic throb of midperiod Korn, with frontman Jonathan Davis continuing to pick at the scabs of alienation and addiction.

The paradigm has shifted … backward.
