Rydell back on road after transplant

Two liver transplant recipients on the same weekend? What are the odds?

Bobby Rydell would not otherwise be confused with Gregg Allman. But the 70-year-old "Wild One" and "Volare" singer had both a kidney and liver transplant last summer, sharing the latter with a 4-year-old Philadelphia girl. (He received 75 percent of the organ and she got the rest.)

Without the July transplant, Rydell told reporters at the time, he was given only a month to live.

This weekend's Las Vegas dates are his first since he was sidelined by organ failure last March. Later this month in California, Rydell reunites with fellow Philly teen idols Fabian and Frankie Avalon for another of the "Golden Boys" shows that often brought them to Las Vegas .

Local ventriloquist and radio host Michele LaFong opens Rydell's Suncoast shows today through Sunday.
