Robin Williams’ return to TV is an insufferable mess

"Pilot" -- Sydney Roberts (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Simon Roberts (Robin Williams), Andrew Keaneally (Hamish Linklater), Lauren Slotsky (Amanda Setton) and Zach Cropper (James Wolk) are setting the advertising world on fire on the series premiere of THE CRAZY ONES, Thurs. Sept. 26 (9:00 â 9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Photo: Cliff Lipson/CBS é 2013 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Robin Williams’ return to TV is more messy than triumphant.
A young advertising executive (Gellar) tries to rein in her brilliant-yet-unpredictable partner (Williams) who’s also her father.
It’s like “Mad (As in Insane) Men” — they even stole Bob Benson! Yes, it’s a big deal that Williams is back on TV. But the way he gives in to the same obvious, tired impulses he’s been relying on for decades is eye-rollingly insufferable. And the premiere is just one big, noisy McDonald’s commercial masquerading as a comedy.
What: “The Crazy Ones”
When: 9 p.m. Sept. 26, KLAS-TV, Channel 8
