‘The Originals’ is nothing to talk about

CW’s “The Originals” premieres Thursday night.
The surviving original vampires (Morgan, Gillies, Holt) head to The Big Easy in this spinoff of “The Vampire Diaries.”
It’s like “Treme” with monsters, or “True Blood” with less engaging ones. “The Originals” is fine for what it is. But is it really such a good idea to siphon off core characters from a series that’s only becoming less interesting as it goes?
