How to dress for Homecoming

Tips to score the look.

Homecoming is just around the corner. This means sports, exciting games, dance parties and the return of old friends, among others. With so much going on, the last thing you want is to stress about what to wear and where to find it. So we came up with five tips to help you decide what to wear for the big event.

1. Be original, show your personality, think outside the box

There are several ways for you to look flirty but at the same time sophisticated. Looking at the runways is a good idea for inspiration. See what you like, decide whether it would be a good fit for your body type, and most importantly, know what would make you feel comfortable. Also, by looking at the runways, you might get ideas about how to rock something you already have in your wardrobe. Once you've identified that piece, think about how you can tweak it to make it work and turn it into your own creation. Try different combinations. Fashion nowadays is absolutely approachable and easy to wear, making allusion to pret-a-porter, or ready to wear, and creating many wearable combinations.

2. Inspiration

Find your inspiration. Start with your favorite piece. It can be your shoes, dress or even a statement jewelry piece that you absolutely want to wear. Once you have identified this piece, start building your outfit around it. Simply find a way to wear that piece that you absolutely love. It will make you feel like a princess and offer security at the important event.

3. Shine

Find a look that will make you stand out. Make it an original look that reflects your personality. Every girl is trying to find that dress that, once they've discovered it, nobody else at the event will be able to wear the same one. Don't be afraid to look for that unique piece in consignment stores, online or even vintage stores. If you want to go for high-end designers and stick to your budget, consignment shops can yield pristine dresses for half the price. It's your night and your choice, just remember to be open to finding something that has not been discovered yet.

4. Fit and comfy are the go-to

Choose an outfit and a pair of shoes that you feel absolutely comfortable in. Yes, 6-inch stilettos look beautiful in magazines and on models, but these are not absolutely comfortable. If you have trouble walking in them, people will notice you are not comfortable. Try different heels and make your choice based on how they feel, not how they look. Now, for your dress, look for a dress that makes you feel stunning but comfortable.

5. Be true to yourself

There will always be moments to share with friends, discuss common thoughts and partake in common activities, but there comes a time to express your individual personality, make reference to your own style and get everyone's attention. Allowing yourself to try different trends and express your freedom is the best way to build your confidence and figure out what works better for you. If you love what you're wearing, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. You won't even need to worry about other people's response. So be true to yourself and wear that unique outfit that allows you to feel comfortable, show off your personality and shine during that special night.
