Jennifer Aniston’s style in need of the unexpected

She cut her hair earlier this year and it was major news. Now that it's grown back to look exactly the same pre-cut, we're wondering why it was such a big deal. Jennifer Aniston needs to make some style changes. And actually stick to them.

Here she is promoting her Lifetime feature "Five," for which she directed one of the shorts. It doesn't matter if she's walking the red carpet as a director, actress or supportive girlfriend. You can bet on two things. She'll either be wearing all black or beige. Oh, make that three things. And her hair will look exactly the same as it has the past 10 years.

This isn't a criticism of the outfits she wears. She's never in the train wreck category when it comes to fashion. But, let's just say her wardrobe makes her ex-husband Brad Pitt's recent claim that their marriage was dull pretty easy to believe. (Not that we support a man who jumped the marriage ship for a shinier ship.)

Aniston seriously needs to live a little.

Sure, her dress at the Oscars two years ago was so high we saw her pubic bone. And, yes, her role in "Horrible Bosses" was a jaw-dropping departure from the predictable romantic-comedies we've seen her in over and over and over again. But, that's merely a start.

She probably convinced herself that this little peekaboo moment her bra is having on this blue carpet was really pushing the envelope. Wrong. Pushing the envelope for her would be wearing color. It doesn't have to be hot pink on hot pink, either. Starting out in small doses would please us just fine.

For instance, we can only see the tips of her black heels here. That would've been the perfect opportunity to pep things up. A plum platform or animal print stiletto could easily give this outfit some wow.

The pants could fit better. We're aware her friends at US Weekly have reported that quitting smoking caused her to gain weight (where?), but she needs to loosen up her attitude, not her clothes. A cigarette pant would have been nice here. Or even a flared pant with a high waist.

The vest and long necklace are great, though. There's an edgy factor here. The tabloids have taken to cross referencing Aniston's latest looks with that of her new boyfriend, Justin Theroux. He has more of a rebellious style, leaning toward leather and chunky jewelry.

Considering this is a woman who takes the exact same Mexican vacation every year, we're not holding our breath for a style overhaul. We'll just continue hoping she surprises us one day and graces the red carpet in something really wild, like a red belt.
