Shakira Shuns her ‘She Wolf’

Just look at her in that cotton candy pink dress. You almost have to ask yourself if it really is the same songstress whose latest video has her climbing around half naked in a cage to prove her "She Wolf" nature. This ensemble has us wondering who swiped Shakira's giant-sized lollipop when usually we're wondering the same of her clothes.

Perhaps her PR team decided she humped the air one too many times in that video and needed to start dressing as though she just hopped off the prettiest unicorn on the carousel. If that in fact was the goal, we'd have to pass their efforts with flying colors.

Whenever you need your clothes to act as dimples and pigtails, start with pink. It makes people think of baby showers and bubble gum which, in this case, is a good thing. Next, incorporate the kind of skirt that makes you want to twirl around like the ballerina on that jewelry box you never had. Between the color pink and the skirt, you've got enough to have the girl next door salivating.

Don't take it so far that strangers will start offering you candy, though. Do as Shakira here did and swirl in a little contrast. Her use of the color black incorporates just enough bite to remind us she hasn't gone completely Taylor Swift.

First, the leather belt. Depending on how you look at it, the bow either contributes to the sweet effect or looks like it could unravel into a dominatrix whip. The boyfriend cardigan lends well to the prim and proper tone, but we're more impressed with the way it perfectly chisels out the violin shape of her figure. And, yes, matte tights are the only way to go in terms of hosiery these days, however, they also help camouflage Shakira's shoes. Her platform stilettos prove the sex pot still boils, even when placed on the back burner.

There you have all the ingredients to successfully makeover an image that teetered too close to trollop status. If you need to do the same -- maybe you had one too many at the company party -- here's how to copy the look.
