hair repair

The life of a starlet must be rough. Hair stylists in Los Angeles refer to the time between June and August as Post-Cannes Rehab, that time after vacations and the Cote d'Azur when stars need their color redone and ends trimmed. Stylist Demetrius Pombo at John Frieda Salon arms his clients -- who include Gisele Bündchen, Linda Evangelista and Matthew McConaughey -- with Rene Furterer sun-care products. In particular, the Apres-Soleil Masque Reparateur helps revitalize sun-damaged locks with its combination of organic sesame seed extract and karite butter. Rene Furterer Apres-Soleil Masque Reparateur, $26, Omni Chemist

individualistic fragrance

Sonia Rykiel once said, "The need to hear someone say to me every morning that I look and smell wonderful motivates me to create." With that thought in mind, fashion house Sonia Rykiel stepped onto the fragrance counter with Belle En Rykiel, an aromatic oriental scent reminescent of the designer's colorful knits. Rykiel's philosophy that women should adapt their own tastes and not follow the masses guided the direction of her fragrance as well. Notes of mandarin, red currant and lavender mix with patchouli, amber and mahogany. Bell En Rykiel eau de parfum, $85 for 3.4 fluid ounces, Nordstrom

black magic

The fashion world got very excited when Giorgio Armani announced during its fall fashion show in January that it was moving into the realm of skin care. Giorgio Armani took a different approach by concentrating on what skin needs over the course of a lifetime -- what Armani calls mineralization of living matters. Scientists turned to volcanic rocks on the Mediterranean island of Pantelleria to find the ingredients they needed. The luxury cream uses obsidian, a natural mineral compound of volcanic origin, found in the mud baths on that tranquil island. Giorgio Armani Crema Nera Classic, $225 for 50 milliliters and Crema Nera Luxe, $275 for the 50-milliliter jar with the obsidian massage stone packaged in a black lacquer box, Giorgio Armani

double trouble

Six is the new lucky number for Clarins. The skin-care company uses flora from six continents to create its Clarins Generation 6 Double Serum. The new formula reduces the appearance of wrinkles, lifts features, fights the signs of fatigue and nourishes and softens the skin. Look for it in stores next month. Clarins Generation 6 Double Serum, $90, Nordstrom
