Las Vegas company offers chance to join mile-high club

It started as a college dream and a discussion between buddies. Andy Johnson, a West Virginia native, wanted to create a business that would give people the chance to live their fantasy and join the infamous mile high club.

He moved to Las Vegas last year to make his dream a reality and create an over-the-top romantic environment inside a Cessna 421 Golden Eagle adorned with a foam mattress, heart-shaped pillows and red velvet curtains.

“People tend to get so worked up with their lives. It happens in all marriages,” Johnson said. “They need something that reminds them why they married their partners.”

Love Cloud opened last March at the North Las Vegas Airport, 2722 Perimeter Road, and flies couples over the Strip, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead or Red Rock Canyon for daytime or nighttime flights.

Johnson said he has had 80 couples experience what he calls the “once-in-a-lifetime flight.”

Although he was initially worried about sketchy people booking flights, he said his customers are 35 to 65 years old, married and typically book a flight to add spark to their relationship.

“I’ve been contacted for porn movies, but I turned the offers down because I didn’t want this to be a brothel in the sky,” Johnson said. “I wanted this to be a romantic thing, and it has been. The majority of the time, it’s the women who book the flight.”

Once the plane reaches an altitude of 5,280 feet, couples can unbuckle their seatbelts and have 40 minutes of privacy.

Features include mood lighting, music and a satin bag full of complimentary condoms and lubricants.

“We were the very first couple to be able to consummate our marriage with Love Cloud,” said Kristina Hitchcock. “We found out about it after we Googled places to have sex in Vegas. The experience was orgasmic and just completely made the rest of our wedding day.”

A curtained door separates the couple from the pilot, who will wear a noise-canceling headset to drown out any sounds.

After a couple are done with their rendezvous, a cleaning service comes to scrub the cabins and wash the sheets, pillowcases and towels.

Last year, Johnson made it to the third round of auditions of the television show “Shark Tank,” but he turned it down. Instead he said he has a reality show in the works set to be similar to taxi cab confessions.

“It’ll basically be a show following couples that board the plane to see why they decided to book the flight,” Johnson said.

A 30-minute flight costs $799, a one-hour flight is $999 and a 90-minute flight is $1,399.

Add-ons include a limo service to and from the airport, chocolates, champagne and a dozen roses for $299.

Couples can brag about their adventure with a Mile High VIP membership card given to them once they land.

In addition, Johnson offers charter flights and operates Sky Cloud, which takes customers on scenic trips while enjoying a three-course meal.

“Everyone who comes to Love Cloud gets on with a smile on their face and leaves with a smile on their face,” Johnson said. “If they don’t, I usually say it was the husband’s fault.”
