Fishing report

■ LAKE MEAD — Despite warmer temperatures and springlike weather, fishing remains slow. But there have been reports of striped bass from the Muddy River inflow to Echo Bay. The Vegas Wash also is showing signs that fishing is beginning to improve.

■ LAKE MOHAVE — Late February and early March are traditionally some of the best fishing on this water, as largemouth prepare for the spawn. In the past few years, they have been joined by a growing smallmouth bass population. During a recent tournament, one angler reportedly weighed in a smallmouth that pushed beyond the 5-pound mark. Look for fish to head out of the deeper waters and congregate more on shallow shelves as they start building nests. Willow Beach anglers continue to have good luck for rainbows after the weekly plants by the Willow Beach National fish Hatchery.

■ URBAN PONDS — Anglers have found action for stocked rainbow trout after weekly plants by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The fish are released in the ponds at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City, Sunset Park and Floyd Lamb Park. Though the fish are small by some standards, a 10-inch rainbow can put up a good fight. Night crawlers, PowerBait, small spinners and flies will catch the fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — The reservoirs are mostly free of ice, and what ice is left is considered unsafe. Anglers will find fishable waters on the southern ends of the reservoirs, where shore anglers, boaters and float tubers can find good opportunities. Haymeadow, Cold Springs and Adams-McGill have clear water; the water is murky at Dacey Reservoir. The upper ends of each reservoir are closed Feb. 15 through Aug. 15. Fishing pressure has been slow.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Ice averages from 8 to 12 inches thick, but anglers will find some open water near the dam. Anglers have been catching rainbow and brown trout, some as long as 14 inches. Most have been fooled by jigs, night crawlers or PowerBait.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — There is open water along the dam, and many anglers have taken advantage of this to use jigs and bobbers to take fish. The best baits have proven to be night crawlers and PowerBait.
