HONOR RIDE LAS VEGAS PLANNED NOV. 8

Honor Ride Las Vegas is scheduled to return to the Strip on Nov. 8. The ride is a self-paced, noncompetitive cycling event, open to all veterans and the general public, to raise money for Ride 2 Recovery. Riders are to have two route options, 40 or 60 miles, that start and finish on Las Vegas Boulevard at the MGM Resort Festival Lot. Registration cost varies. Visit ride2recovery.com.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION PLANS WALK/RUN EVENT

The American Heart Association My Heart. My Life. Heart & Stroke Walk and Run is set to start at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Fremont Street Experience Third Street stage. The event, with 5K and 1-mile walking routes and a timed 5K heart run, is set to have free health screenings, entertainment, food and more. MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED

The PGA Golf Management University program and The First Tree of Southern Nevada are planning the Matthew Anderson Tournament, set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Nov. 10 at the Mountain Course at the Red Rock Country Club, 2250 Red Springs Drive. The event is to benefit the UNLV Matthew S. Anderson Memorial PGM Scholarship Endowment Fund and The First Tee of Southern Nevada summer programming. PUPPY UP! WALK PLANNED

The national nonprofit organization 2 Million Dogs, which funds comparative oncology research benefiting pets and people, is planning its Puppy Up! Las Vegas Walk on Nov. 15 at Bruce Trent Park, 8851 Vegas Drive.

Registration starts at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at noon. Participants are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the festival with food, vendors and music. Preregistration by Nov. 13 is $20 per person and free for kids 14 or younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration the day of the walk is $25 per person. GARDEN TOUR PLANNED

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners have scheduled the November garden tour, titled Alternative to the Tired Ten. The tour, scheduled for Nov. 15 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road,, is free and open to the public. Master Gardeners are set to discuss which plants can be used in place of the hardy but overused, landscape plants such as red yucca, oleander, Texas Ranger, etc. The tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours.

To join the tour, meet in the courtyard by 10 a.m. Walking shoes, water and hats are suggested.

RAINBOW YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE SIGN-UPS SET FOR NOV. 15

Rainbow Youth Soccer League sign-ups for those ages 2 to 18 are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Desert Breeze Soccer Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road. The league office is at 9360 W. Flamingo Road.

WORKSHOP ON GARDENING IN SMALL PLACES PLANNED

Join the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road, for a workshop on Gardening in Small Places: growing fruit at home. Dr. Angela O’Callaghan is set to teach about growing figs, nectarines, peaches, apricots, pears, apples, strawberries, cantaloupe, grapes, blackberries and more.

Class space is limited to 25, and preregistration is required. There is a $25 fee per class, which covers class materials.

BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL TO RETURN TO THE ORLEANS

The Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational basketball tournament is set to return Nov. 27 and 28 to the Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave. This year’s teams are Illinois, Baylor, Memphis, Indiana State, Stephen F. Austin, Brown, Austin Peay and Prairie View.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION TO HOST JINGLE BELL RUN DEC. 13

The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is planned for 8 a.m. Dec. 13 at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd.

Runners can wear holiday-themed costumes and tie jingle bells to their shoelaces to get in the holiday spirit while raising funds to find a cure for arthritis. Live entertainment, vendors providing breakfast and a Reindeer Dash to Kidville also are planned.

COOPERATIVE EXTENSION OFFERS JUNIOR GARDENING CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program is availbe for children ages 7 to 12. Kids can experience hands-on gardening activities while learning about plants, water, soil, veggies and more.

The 4-H program is an eight-session-per-semester class with a fee of $52. Classes are planned from 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday. For the north part of the valley, classes are planned at the Research Center & Demonstration Orchard, 4600 Horse Drive. In the south part of the valley, classes are planned at the Lifelong Learning Center’s Outdoor Education Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

FENCING CAMPS PLANNED BY RED ROCK FENCING CENTER

Introduction to Fencing Camps for ages 5 to 9 and 9 to 15 are planned from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Red Rock Fencing Center, 8352 W. Warm Springs Road.

Participants will learn sportsmanship, the art and skill of fencing and have fun in the process. Fencing teaches focus, determination, coordination and thinking skills. Participants should bring lunch, but equipment will be supplied.

Camp fees are $200 per week, with an early drop-off fee of $20 per day from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m. The camp offers a 20 percent discount for siblings.

SENIOR YOGA, TAI CHI CLASSES AVAILABLE

Atria Seville, 2000 N. Rampart Blvd., is set to host a one-hour Senior Tai Chi & Yoga Class at 2 p.m. Wednesdays. The class is led by master Mitch Menik. CENTENNIAL HILLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER OFFERS WEEKLY SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES

The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, offers weekly fitness classes for active adults 50 or older from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays.

Classes include card and game activities, crafts, dance and fitness. The yearly membership is $2 and includes access to all activities, though some may have additional fees.
