CHARLESTON, Ill. — Skyler James and Charlie Heflin share a long history.
But before James graduated from high school in Charleston last week the two had never really met.
According to the News-Gazette in Champaign, Heflin was an emergency medical technician when he found the newborn James in a cemetery near Champaign. She had been abandoned by her birth mother.
The 6-pound, 6-ounce baby girl was soon adopted by Bonnie and Greg James in Charleston. Heflin moved on to the Evansville, Indiana, area where he still lives.
James’ parents recently went looking for the man who saved her. And they surprised her by bringing him to her graduation.
She says there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when they met.
James says the two have talked every day since then.
