U.S. vs. Japan giant robot battle scheduled for 2016 — VIDEO

Last week, something awesome happened. Megabots, an American giant robot building company, issued a challenged to Japanese giant robot building company, Suidobashi Heavy Industries.

“We have a giant robot. You have a giant robot. You know what needs to happen. We challenge you to a duel.”

Donning American-flag capes, Matt Oehrlein and Gui Cavalcanti of Megabots touted their newly-built, heavily armed Megabot Mk. II. However, they admit that their machine is not the first of its kind. Suidobashi Heavy Industries beat them to the punch, with their Kuratas.

Now what makes everything so much more amazing? Japan accepted.

In a video posted Sunday, CEO and founder of Suidobashi Heavy Industries, Kogoro Kurata, accepted the challenge wearing his own Japanese flag cape.

However, he had one condition: melee combat is a must.

“If we’re gonna win this, I want to punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it.”

Now if those aren’t the boldest fighting words I’ve ever heard, I don’t know what are. After all, we’re talking about giant metal robots that weigh tons. Literally tons.

While specific details have not yet been announced, it’s needless to say that the anticipation for this event is through the roof.

All aboard the hype train! 2016 can’t come fast enough.
