1 person killed in crash near MLK and Carey

A man died after a crash in North Las Vegas on Thursday night, police said.

Witness statements suggested that speeding and alcohol impairment may have been factors in the 49-year-old man's death, department spokesman officer Aaron Patty said.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. and involved a sedan and an SUV. The SUV's 38-year-old driver was also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Traffic officers closed the area around Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue while they investigated. By 10 p.m., only part of eastbound Carey had reopened.

Additional details were not immediately available. The identity of the man who died will be released by the Clark County coroner's office after his family has been notified.
