2 arrested, woman hospitalized after east valley shooting

An 18-year-old woman was hospitalized and two people were arrested Sunday afternoon after a shooting in a east valley neighborhood, Las Vegas police said.

Metro officers were called just after 2 p.m. to the 4500 block of Fireside Lane, near East Bonanza Road and North Lamb Boulevard, where bystanders told police two women had been fighting when one of them was shot, department spokesman Lt. Bruce Miyama said.

The woman had been fighting in the middle of the street on Doig Lane, one street over from Fireside, with a large group gathered around them, when a man in a silver sedan pulled up to the group, got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots, Miyama said.

One of the shots hit the 18-year-old in the upper torso, he said. She ran to Fireside and was later taken to University Medical Center with wounds that were not life-threatening. She is in stable condition, Miyama said.

The other woman involved in the fight got into the man’s car and the two fled. They were arrested an hour later about 2 miles from the shooting, at 1750 Marion Drive, near Owens Avenue.

Metro detectives believe the shooting was gang-related, Miyama said.
