2 sent to hospital after high-speed I-15 chase

The driver of a stolen vehicle involving a high-speed chase, fiery crash and the closure of a 215 Beltway onramp early Friday morning is a minor, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

An NHP trooper tried to pull over a 1995 Honda traveling over 100 mph on southbound Interstate 15 about 12:38 a.m., trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said. A brief high-speed chase ensued before the stolen vehicle took the eastbound ramp from I-15 toward the Beltway. The vehicle rolled, landed on the onramp caught fire, Stuenkel added.

The vehicle's driver and passenger were taken to University Medical Center. The passenger had minor injuries and was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The driver faces charges of exceeding the speed limit by 31-40 mph, reckless driving, failure to maintain travel lanes, failure to use a signal, eluding and endangering the public, DUI with substantial bodily harm, minor in consumption of alcohol, possession of a stolen vehicle, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and driving without a valid driver's license, according to NHP.
