28 DUI arrests at Super Bowl Sunday checkpoint

Almost a third of nearly 90 drivers tested at a Super Bowl sobriety checkpoint face drunken driving charges, according to Las Vegas police.

Multiple police agencies stopped 1,523 vehicles at the checkpoint set up from 6 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard, Metro said Monday in a news release.

The agencies tested 88 people and 28 were arrested, the release said.

Besides Metro, police from Boulder City, sheriff’s deputies from and Lincoln and Nye counties and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers worked the checkpoint. Officers worked overtime via a $1.5 million federally funded grant for a campaign known as “Joining Forces” aimed at reducing speeding, cell phone use and drug and alcohol impairment while driving.
