Adult dies, 2-year-old in critical condition after crash on I-215 in northwest valley

One adult is dead and a 2-year-old is in critical condition after a Thursday afternoon crash on Interstate 215 near Lone Mountain Road, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The 2-year-old was ejected from a speeding Honda sedan just after 6 p.m., when the vehicle crossed over the interstate’s center line and hit a Volkswagen sedan head-on. The Honda sedan then caught fire and the adult driver died on scene.

The toddler was airlifted to University Medical Center, where NHP Trooper Jason Buratczuk said at 8:15 p.m. the child was “still alive. Critical, but still alive.”

The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t seriously injured.

Interstate 215 northbound was shut down at Ann Road and the interstate’s southbound lanes were closed at Lone Mountain Road after the wreck. Traffic was expected to remain shut down for a few hours.
