Apartment fire closes Tropicana at McLeod

An apartment complex on Tropicana Avenue near McLeod Drive caught fire Monday morning, sending up a black plume of smoke visible from miles away.

Firefighters said the blaze started in the kitchen of a first-floor kitchen in a unit at 2838 Calle Del Oro, said fired department spokesman

A call about the fire came in at 9:15 a.m. Monday. The flames affected two units in the three-story, multi-family complex and was extinguished about 10 a.m.

No one was hurt in the blaze, but three cats are missing, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Traffic backed up on westbound Tropicana started flowing again about 10:45 a.m., Buchanan said.

Sixty-five firefighters were on scene, according to Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Roy Session.
