The bicyclist who was shot multiple times on Owens Avenue and Mary Jane Drive and died later Saturday morning has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
Arthur Earl Cowell, a 23-year-old Las Vegas resident, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His death has been ruled a homicide, the coroner's office said.
Police had received a call regarding a homicide at 4:18 a.m. Saturday. Patrol officers responding to the call found Cowell lying in a parking lot by the Alpha Gardens Apartments, 1695 Mary Jane Drive, near Owens Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. Cowell was transported to University Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced dead, Metro said.
Metro homicide investigators determined that Cowell was riding his bicycle east on Owens Avenue when a newer model black pickup truck pulled up next to him, and someone in the truck fired multiple rounds, the department said. Cowell was struck multiple times and then stumbled into a nearby parking lot where he collapsed, Metro said in a release Saturday.
No more information was immediately available.
