The Clark County coroner’s office on Tuesday identified the teenager who was stabbed to death near a northeast valley McDonald’s on Sunday night.
Jim Alexander Leyton, 16, of Las Vegas, died from a stab wound to the chest, the coroner said.
Leyton was found dead on the side of the road in the 2500 block of East Owens Avenue, near North Eastern Avenue, about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
An initial investigation determined Leyton was walking with a family member when they were confronted by a “group of Hispanic males,” Las Vegas homicide detectives said. Investigators provided no further description.
An argument between the two groups escalated into a physical fight, police said. The fight was broken up when passing drivers honked their horns, leading to the second group to run away.
Leyton collapsed on the side of the road where authorities found his body, police said.
Metro’s gang unit is investigating the stabbing.
