Coroner IDs 14-year-old boy killed by RTC bus

The Clark County coroner's office has identified a boy struck and killed by a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada bus on Sunday evening.

He is TayVyon Howard, 14, of North Las Vegas, the coroner said Monday.

Police said he was struck when he stepped onto the road from the sidewalk, Las Vegas police said. Something had "startled" him.

In a Tweet Monday morning, RTC staff said they were "disheartened" by the crash. RTC sent its "deepest sympathies" to the boy's family, the passengers and the bus driver.

The driver wasn't able to stop the bus, which westbound at 32 mph on Vegas Drive, just west of Martin Luther King Boulevard, police said.
